AccessAlly bbPress Add-on

* bbPress is an external plugin not developed by AccessAlly. AccessAlly does not provide support for its functionality.

bbPress is a WordPress forum plugin. When used with AccessAlly, you can create private Forums / Topics based on users’ permission tag(s).

Important: Some clients experience “spam sign ups” to their membership site when they install bbPress. This doesn’t happen through AccessAlly, but through bbPress – and we recommend installing a “spam sign up” blocking plugin. This is the one we recommend, but there are other options through a Google Search too.

Installation

The bbPress add-on is a WordPress plugin, and it can be installed the same way as the AccessAlly plugin.

  1. Download the plugin zip file
  2. On your membership site, open the WordPress Dashboard, and go to Plugins -> Add New -> Upload Pluginaccessally-bbpress-1
  3. Select the downloaded accessally-bbpress zip file, and click on “Install Now”
  4. Once installed, click on Activate Plugin

Add-on feature

The add-on doesn’t have any additional settings. It performs two functions:

  1. When a new Topic is created, the Topic will be assigned the same permission as the parent Forum.
  2. When a new Reply is added, the Reply will be assigned the same permission as the parent Topic.

Configure Forum Permission With AccessAlly

Because new Topics will inherit the parent Forum’s permission, you need to configure the AccessAlly permission for the Forums that you want to limit access to.

Configuring the AccessAlly permission for a bbPress Forum is exactly the same as configuring permission for a regular WordPress page. You can do so in the AccessAlly Member Permission section.

(Optional) Configure permission for existing Topics

The bbPress add-on will only affect any new Topics added after it is activated. If you have existing Topics that you want to limit access to, you will need to do so manually.

Similar to bbPress Forums, you can configure the permission of a Topic in the AccessAlly Member Permission section.

Note: If you have a lot of existing Topics, you can opt to edit the permissions for multiple Topics in AccessAlly -> Permissions.
